Blu Omega is a Woman Owned Small Business (WOSB) IT services firm. We provide Technology solutions for enterprise and government customers. Currently, we are looking for an IT Operations Splunk Engineer to join our team and thrive within an Innovation Lab.
The Ops Splunk Engineer will be primarily ensuring the smooth operation of an Innovation Lab in an AWS cloud environment. You will be working closely with the cloud and Enterprise security team as well to ensure that operation and cloud infrastructure and processes are in compliance with corporate policies. In addition to the comprehensive support of the production and non-production platforms, you will also be involved in the continuous improvement of the highly automated build deployments, as well as monitoring and creating backups.
The Ops Splunk Engineer will be involved in patching and upgrading of servers and applications. You will be part of a variety of IT projects’ implementation, operationalization and provide support for security and compliance audits. The Ops engineer will participate and support evaluation of new technologies as part of technology modernization effort. You will work in a small and highly experienced team that work in software engineering, DevOps, Data management, analytics platform management and analytics developers. Your characteristics should include being proactive, innovative, and persistent when it comes to problem solving, and open to technological innovations and have a "can do" mentality and enjoy finding the best solution for customers.
You will be responsible for deployment environments for varying kinds of applications, users on-boarding and access management, supporting systems adherence to security compliance, systems and databases upgrades and patching, implementing automation frameworks such as ETL pipelines, backup/restore, system and application log management to monitor system health, monitoring, and alerting workflows. The Ops Splunk Engineer must have a knowledge of Infrastructure as a code scripting and application configuration management.
Job Responsibilities:
- Assesses requirements, use cases and customer needs to make recommendations on DevSecOps-related technical tools and services as part of solutions and pilots
- Serves as a key resource in developing key DevOps applications and programs in support of broader strategy and customer needs
- Anticipates customer and team needs and proactively develops solutions to meet them
- Serves as a key resource in ensuring high availability of cloud resources, smooth operation of automated jobs
- Collaborates with DevOps engineers in deploying resources, such as servers or network components, troubleshooting the operational issues
- Develop KPIs on the computing, network, storage, databases, and containerized resources, builds Splunk and AWS cloud watch dashboards, automates monitoring and alerting should there be deviation in performance of system/resources
- Implementing robust authentication and authorization processes and tools to enforce security requirements and protect data
- Continuously evaluate and implement options to optimize cloud resource usage and automation
- Manage implementation and operation of tools GitHub, Jenkins, Splunk log management, EKS, Airflow, Tableau, Databricks, Snowflake, RStudio, AWS RDS
- Uses Infrastructure as code (IaC) tools, specifically Terraform and CloudFormation to manage deployment of cloud resources
- Reviews work performed by others, provide recommendations for improvement.
- Forecasts and plans resource requirements
- Support security audits and patch environments as needed
- Implement processes and workflows in managing operation issues and resolution
- Provides explanations and information to others on the most complex issues.
- Provides clear explanations and recommendations to other on complex issues including working with vendors as applicable on debugging, troubleshooting or research
- Work with Optum’s Enterprise Information Security (EIS) and Healthcare Cloud (HCC) to ensure AWS resources are scanned for vulnerability and all recommended vulnerabilities are patched on time
- Must have knowledge about managing SSL certificates in AWS environment
- Must work with developers and DevOps engineers in architecting secure and highly available platform
Minimum Requirements:
Undergraduate degree in computer science or equivalent experience
Cloud architect and/or DevOps architect certification
Required Job Qualifications:
- 6+ years hands-on the Ops engineering experience in both AWS as well as Azure
- Profound technology knowledge and hands-on operational of following software tools and AWS services is a must: Splunk, Airflow, Docker, Ansible, Terraform, Jenkins, GitHub, Atlassian Jira, AWS VPC, AWS Security groups, S3, EC2, ELB, EKS, ECS, Route 53, AWS API Gateway, SNS, SES, AWS Lambda, data encryption and key management (KMS), AWS Inspector and AWS Glue
- Hands-on experience with Ops and DevSecOps tools such as Airflow, Docker, GitHub with Git Actions, Kubernetes, Jenkins, HELM, Terraform (IaC), Amazon services (EKS, ECR, RDS, etc) and equivalent services in Azure
- Experience working in multiple cloud environments, especially AWS and Azure and familiarity with cloud-native tools and services
- Must have experience in designing secure and highly available cloud architecture
- Working experience with configuration management tool such as Ansible, Terraform
- Working experience in system and application log management, system monitoring and notification services including cloud services such as CloudWatch/Azure Monitor and Splunk
- Experience with team collaboration tools such as JIRA and agile methodology
- Experience in automating jobs and operation on platform like databricks, Snowflake cloud data warehouse
- Hands on knowledge of build tool such as Maven
- Hands on experience in orchestration and scheduling tool, Airflow
- Must have experience in designing security vulnerability scanning, analyzing vulnerabilities, and developing optimal patching strategy
- Must have AWS services experience in implementing secure protocols and practices
- Experience in managing access control and provisioning of services to users, preferably using AWS IAM Roles and Policies and AWS Security Groups
- Hand-on knowledge of scripting languages such as Python, Bash shell, YAML and JSON. Using python-based APIs to automate the communication with deployed software products
- Experience in using tools like Confluence, Visio to document systems, application configurations, operation manuals, check lists and network diagrams
- Extensive experience in Linux OS administration
- Experience in working with software vendors to support software patching and upgrade
- Good communication skills and analytical thinking.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certified Splunk developer
- Knowledge of FedRAMP security controls and supporting ATO practices
