Job Summary

Work collaboratively with Development, Process and Quality Engineers evaluating product and process requirements to determine the appropriate inspection method. Develops gauge designs to inspect unique characteristics of medical devices, when alternative inspection techniques are not feasible or economical.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Approves gauge design drawings, overlays and other documents.
  • Determines functional and dimensional acceptability of gauge during first article inspection and recalibration.
  • Discerns risk to previously produced product when gauge fails recalibration.
  • Acts as the dimensioning and tolerancing expert in drawing review meetings.
  • Develops, installs, and monitors gauging systems and procedures to assure proper function.
  • Complies with existing procedures and standards to create product models and drawings that comply with Quality Systems Regulations.
  • Must be efficient in creating models and assemblies using master modeling techniques within Unigraphics software and capable of modifying existing models and drawings to Zimmer change requirements.
Expected Areas of Competence
  • Intermediate knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and capable of applying GD&T callouts to drawings per ASME Y 14.5.
  • Innovative in developing new designs. Develops patentable designs.
  • Assists with the development of processes and techniques that shorten development cycle times.
  • Must possess good written and verbal communication skills. Extensive knowledge of math, testing equipment, report writing, and training.
  • Must possess intermediate to high UniGraphics and/or other design platform(s) knowledge and understanding. Capable of creating any high level design/drawing in UniGraphics and/or other design platform(s).
Education/Experience Requirements
  • A two-year technical degree preferred, as well as 5+ years of experience.
  • Professional certification in a Quality or Engineering discipline along with 5 Years experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Must certify to the ASME Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing Professional Test at the Technologist level.
