Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Rutgers Future Scholars (RFS) New Brunswick Summer Ambassador. A near peer Ambassador for the Rutgers Future Scholars New Brunswick/Piscataway and Rahway communities is a dynamic role with multi-faceted responsibilities. The Ambassadors, alongside our pro-staff, are our core team that ensures the success of our Summer Program.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Will be responsible for an assigned group of scholars’ attendance and well-being throughout the course of the day.
  • Will distribute all needed supplies to scholars on a daily, included, but not limited to: schedules, lunch vouchers, course supplies, course texts.
  • Will lead scholars to designated areas, making sure the scholars’ whereabouts are known at all times.
  • Clear and effective communication is crucial at all times.
  • Provides classroom support for instructors; this includes educational support, as well as assistance with classroom management among other responsibilities as assigned.
  • May be asked to facilitate and lead conversations, workshops, or panels related to their college experiences.
  • Should act as a leader and mentor to Scholars.
  • Host and/or facilitate in person conversations.
  • Participates in discussions surrounding the college experience.
  • Assists the RFS staff with tasks, as needed.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • High School diploma or equivalent, and/or up to 4 years of relevant office, clerical, bookkeeping, library assistant or related experience depending on the duties to be performed.

Certifications/Licenses

Preferred Qualifications
  • Rutgers Future Scholars Mentors and previous Summer Ambassador experience a plus.
  • Maturity level necessary to serve as a front line staff member representing Rutgers Future Scholars.
  • Preference will be given to current/former Scholars of our program.
  • Translation support: Bilingual in Spanish and/or additional languages (written and oral).

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Effectively communicate with wide arrange of constituents (adolescent aged children, guardians, faculty/staff).
  • Experience as a mentor working with children in Middle School/High School.
  • Must be available during entirety of dates assigned during our Summer Program.
  • Must be available during Summer Program hours (tentatively 8am-3pm).
  • Must be available for Pre-Summer Training(s) and meeting(s).
  • Must be available to attend daily/weekly staff check-ins and staff meetings.
  • Access to stable internet connection and virtual programs such as Zoom/Webex.
  • Access to mic/camera.

Immunization Requirements

Under Policy 60.1.35 Immunization Policy for Rutgers Employees and Prospective Employees, Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Employees who are not eligible for a booster at the time of an offer of employment must provide proof they have received a booster upon eligibility and upload proof of same. Under Policy 100.3.1 Immunization Policy for Covered Individuals, if employment will commence during Flu Season, Rutgers University may require certain prospective employees to provide proof that they are vaccinated against Seasonal Influenza for the current Flu Season, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Additional infection control and safety policies may apply. Prospective employees should speak with their hiring manager to determine which policies apply to the role or position for which they are applying. Failure to provide proof of vaccination for any required vaccines or obtain a medical or religious exemption from the University will result in rescission of a candidate’s offer of employment or disciplinary action up to and including termination.
