Position Summary
The objective of this position is to serve as a Research Technician under the direction of Director of the Systems Genetics Core Facility, Department of Genetics. This technician will be responsible for breeding and monitoring of Collaborative Cross mice. Filling orders and arranging shipping of this valuable mouse resource. This is a service-oriented position, so interaction with customers in a polite and efficient manner is essential. Responsibilities include both animal breeding and accurate record keeping for this project and assuring its accuracy and integrity. Opportunities for dissections, DNA extraction and quantification, and PCR may be available as needed.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Knowledge of mouse husbandry and mouse anatomy. Ability to use relevant databases and informatics tools to ensure the timely completion of breeding. Experience in managing research mouse colonies. Ability to work in a group setting.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Preferred: Two years of mouse husbandry/colony management experience, experience with general molecular biology laboratory skills, graduation from a two year college or university (non-science major qualifies). Two to six months of on-the-job training would be required to perform all of the duties and responsibilities of the position if the candidate is not already proficient for the skills listed. Experience handling wild mice or Collaborative Cross mice is preferred. Preferred in-lab technical experience should include: animal handling, animal dissections, PCR, genotyping.
