Job Description:
The Quality Assurance/Safety Coordinator is responsible for overseeing and maintaining the quality policies and procedures of the company and for planning, implementing and overseeing the company’s employee safety at work. In addition to other assignments as directed by the Chief Financial Officer. The Quality Assurance/Safety Coordinator is to provide leadership, support, and guidance directly to all personnel to ensure food quality standards and compliance to Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) guidelines are met. This is achieved by developing and enforcing quality and safety policies, training employees, validating processes, and providing documentation with the support of the warehouse and customer service managers. The Quality Assurance/Safety Coordinator reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer.
Qualifications/Skills:
- Strong communication, training, and interpersonal skills
- Strong writing and criticial thinking skills
- Experience in safety management or similar field
- Knowledge and experience in process safety, fall protection and forklift safety.
- Experience in warehousing, dairy or manufacturing preferred
- Working knowledge of GMP, food safety regulations, and OHS guidelines preferred
- Organizational skills; ablility to manage priorities
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
- PCQI and HACCP certification a plus
- Ability to effectively communicate and respond to the concerns of managers, subordinates, and regulatory agencies
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus
Responsibilities & Duties:
Quality Assurance:
- Maintains the Quality Management Policies and Procedures (QMPP) and documentation
- Analyzes activities outlined in the QMPP for completion, efficacy, and efficiency and identifies opportunities for improvements.
- Works with senior management on the development and revision of policies and procedures as they pertain to food quality and safety
- Keeps up to date with relevant international, federal, state and local regulations
- Ensure all current certification requirements are met as well as the addition and/or compliance of any new required certification
- Ensures the food quality and safety procedurs outlined in the QMPP are communicated to all personnel through employee training (verbal and practical) which is designed to keep employees knowledgeable, informed, and in compliance with food quality and safety standards and procedures relevant to their job function
- Reviews and approves internal monitoring activities to ensure food safety parameters are met; works with department managers and supervisors regarding non-satisfactory findings.
- Handle non-conforming product, holds, corrective actions, and verification of preventative actions
- Issue and maintain corrective actions to vendors for non-conformance of products and or policies
- Investigates customer complaints using root cause analysis and works with department managers to determine what corrective and preventative actions are necessary
- Directs and schedules all audits (customer, 3rdparty, regulatory); responsible for the completion of any corrective actions issued
- Obtain required documentation from suppliers and vendors
- Conduct mock recalls, risk assessments, and evactuation practices
- Interacts with regulatory personnel, food safety auditors, and customers to maintain positive and responsive relationships and ensure rapid corrective actions through dynamic leadership and timely documentation
- Leads annual management review of QMPP
- Communicates document and specification updates to all relevant departments
- Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
Safety:
- Conducts new hire safety orientation and compliance -based job-specific safety training.
- Conducts monthly safety meeting with each facility and provides safety topics for discussion.
- Makes safety visible in the workplace trough various postings, safety messages, campaigns and other strategies.
- Facilitates an effective safety steering committee through the identification, development and sharing of injury trend analysis and key performance indicators to achieving an injury free workplace.
- Assists management teams with identifying responsibilities for safety and facilitates activities that will help all employees demonstrate their ongoing dedication to achieving an injury-free workplace.
- Present on production floor with regular weekly interaction with the warehouse supervisors and manager.
- Performs various inspections (hazard recognition) related to general warehousing to continuously improve workplace conditions and behaviors.
- Develops and shares hazard recognition techniques to create a team approach for the onsite inspection process that covers the numerous legal audits ad inspections required in a warehousing environment.
- Implements and maintains compliance-based safety policies and programs to ensure that the facility meets exceeds federal and state OSHA regulations.
- Reviews proposed warehouse layout modifications and offers recommendations of change efforts to eliminate and/or control safety design hazards.
- Accompanies OSHA and EPA officials on inspections and acts as a liaison with agencies. Completes required governmental reporting and maintains required recordkeeping.
- Partners with the Management staff in leading and strengthening the facility’s Process Safety Management (PSM) and Risk Management (RMP)
- Helps drive the Forklift Safety Training program by conducting Forklift certification training and Forklift refresher training.
- Maintains site-specific emergency response plan and serves as the liaison with external agencies including local fire department.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $20.00 - $30.00 per hour
