Position Summary
Peerless Winsmith provides gear drive solutions for a wide variety of food processing, industrial manufacturing, construction, and military applications. We have 120+ years of experience designing and manufacturing planetary and worm gear drives and we are looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our team.
In working with a multi-disciplinary team, our Mechanical Engineers are responsible for maintaining our legacy product line of gear drives and for creating our next generation drives. The Mechanical Engineering team is involved in the complete life cycle management of our gear drive solutions from concept through design, analysis, testing and implementation on the manufacturing floor.
This role is based out of our Springville, New York facility and will support manufactured product in Springville as well as at our other two facilities in Georgia and North Carolina. This position reports to the Engineering Manager of the Business Unit.
This position requires a minimal travel two-three times a year to other sites in the gearing division where they will be assisting in engineering projects and events.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide technical direction and application support to customers and Sales personnel.
- Maintain existing and create new bills of materials, 3D models and 2D detail drawings.
- Generate cost estimates used in design evaluations.
- Project manages the design and development of new and modified gear drives.
- Perform application/design calculations related to torque, horsepower, and efficiency.
- Utilize finite element analysis methods to perform stress and fatigue evaluations on various housings, gears, bearings, and shafts.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and conduct validation testing of new and modified gear drive designs.
Experience and Education Required
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering required.
- Master’s degree in mechanical engineering preferred.
- 2-4 years’ experience in the design and application of mechanical or gear drive systems
- Familiarity with ERP systems. Microsoft D365 preferred.
Technical Skills
- Microsoft Office
- Experience with 3D modeling and 2D drafting software (SolidWorks preferred)
- Technical writing
- FEA analysis and/or gear design experience a significant plus
- Familiarity with Lean practices preferred.
- Root cause/corrective action analysis
- Experience with DFMEA and PFMEA processes
- Familiarity with ISO 9001-2015 standard is a plus.
