Job Summary

The T&D Equipment Expert provides subject matter expertise for substation equipment. The T&D Equipment Expert is responsible for technical and strategic system evaluation, expansion, maintenance, upgrading of all Transmission and Distribution equipment within PSE&G Inside Plant facilities. Also responsible for the development of asset management long term strategy and business plan support. Position directly impacts PSE&G’s Transmission and Distribution Capital plans through equipment specification, purchase, project support and field support.

Responsibilities include development of maintenance plans and repair/replace strategies for all of PSE&G Transmission and Distribution switching and substation equipment. This position is ultimately responsible for specifications, bid packages and technical evaluation of bids for substation equipment in support of PSE&G’s capital plan. Responsible for maintaining Asset Management Plans (AMP’s) for all Inside Plant Equipment

Job Responsibilities

  • Prepare and update specifications, bid packages, select vendors, evaluate proposals and make recommendations for the procurement of transformers, series and shunt reactors, capacitor banks, regulators, GIS, Circuit Breakers (oil, gas, vacuum and air), circuit switchers, disconnect switches, CCVT's, CT's, PT's, metering units, etc.
  • Support Inside Plant field organizations during project and/maintenance activities as necessary
  • Lead systems studies and evaluation of results for field/operational support
  • Develop prudent investment opportunities and substation design criteria/modifications.
  • Represent PSE&G in technical forums (PJM, IEEE).
  • Perform root cause analysis, develop and ensure the execution of corrective actions.
  • Analysis of Preventative and Corrective maintenance cost and activities to ensure optimization of cost and prudent asset support.
  • Represent department in Safety and Substation working groups.
  • Responsible for defining and maintaining inventory levels and capital spare inventory.
  • Interact with various groups in PSE&G and equipment vendors as necessary to ensure future equipment needs are met


Job Specific Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
  • 10 years’ experience working in energy industry
  • Fundamental understanding of Substation design and large equipment
  • Understanding of existing PSE&G design standards
  • Strong presentation, written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong business, compliance and strategic focus
  • Planning, organizational, and project management skills
  • Energetic and focused on seeking successful outcomes
  • Ability to interact with people at all levels both internally and externally
  • Must possess and maintain a valid US Driver’s License
  • Must possess and use strong oral and written communication skills
  • Must possess demonstrated leadership skills, professionalism and customer/client focus

Desired:

  • Master’s Degree in a related discipline
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification
  • Previous management/supervisory experience with proven leadership qualities
