Histology Technician I -CPDR
Job description
Responsibilities:
- Following established Standard Operating Procedures, performs routine histology procedures including, but not limited to, processing, embedding, and sectioning of FFPE tissue specimens, sectioning and staining of frozen tissue specimens.
- Assists with specialized procedures including immunohistochemical staining and in-situ hybridization.
- Receives and barcodes incoming specimens and enters data into Freezer Tracking and Data Tracking Systems.
- Performs micro and macrodissection of FFPE and frozen tissue slides.
- Prepares slides using RNAse-free protocols.
- Prepares solutions and maintains laboratory equipment.
- Maintains a clean and orderly laboratory.
- Maintains clear laboratory records.
- Assists in gathering and recording data for research protocols.
- Strictly adheres to all established OSHA, HJF, USUHS, MCCRP, and CPDR Safety Protocols and Chemical Hygiene Plans.
- May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for the role.
- Competency in microtomy, embedding and staining of formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissues.
- Maintains effective communication including verbal and written skills, and articulates concerns and updates in a professional manner.
- Completes all assigned tasks in a timely manner.
- Works proficiently in a fluctuating work environment, including maintaining productivity during laboratory downtime.
- Embraces new duties when needed, following appropriate instructions and supervision.
- Performs basic computer skills, including Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Office.
- Understands and articulates basic medical terminology and laboratory functions.
- Lifting: Requires lifting materials over 25 lbs.
- Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods.
Qualifications:
- This position will take place primarily in a laboratory setting.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree
- Minimum of 0-2 years experience required
Licenses and Certifications:
- ASCP Certificate is preferred
