Job description
Simon Everett, Ltd., is seeking to retain a GIS Analyst to support a feasibility study for a large-scale telecommunications network in the Caribbean. This position is contingent upon the award of a contract to perform the study, which we anticipate in Q2 of 2022. The GIS Analyst is currently anticipated to be an independent contractor, retained part-time for a period of 9 to 12 months. This is envisioned to be a remote position, but the GIS Analyst will have the option of working from either of our locations in Arlington, VA, or New York, NY, if preferred.
The ideal candidate
- You have at least 5 years of specialized experience working with geographic information systems (GIS) platforms, such as ArcGIS, 3-GIS, and Unearth.
- You have experience working on complex infrastructure projects, with emerging market experience a plus.
- You are comfortable being the go-to source for geospatial expertise on a hybrid team with technical and non-technical personnel.
- You are an excellent team player. You can shine when it’s needed and support when it counts. You’re equally effective being front and center before a client or providing critical contributions behind the scenes.

Core tasks
You’ll be directly responsible for:
- Being the lead source of geospatial guidance and recommendations for the feasibility study, to include analytic methodology and platform selection
- Researching, analyzing, and mapping existing and contemplated network infrastructure, to include interpreting, cleaning, and standardizing data sets and presenting them via a geospatial platform like ArcGIS, 3-GIS, or Unearth
- Creating layers for land cover, land usage, estimated building heights, population density, income levels, and other data relevant to the analysis
- Contributing substantively to client meetings, interim deliverables, and final deliverables
Desired qualifications
You’ll need to demonstrate:
- Geospatial analysis experience of at least 5 years, specifically including the mapping of infrastructure in emerging markets
- An understanding of key geographic and environmental considerations relative to infrastructure deployments, with telecommunications experience a plus
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills
- Strong quantitative and qualitative analysis skills and an aptitude for creative problem solving
- Initiative; we’ll need you to identify additional tasks and priorities and solve problems we don’t even know exist
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and geospatial analysis platforms like ArcGIS, 3-GIS, and Unearth
- Willingness and ability to travel occasionally internationally (as conditions permit)
- That you have a bachelor’s degree, ideally in a relevant field such as geography, statistics, environmental studies, or geographic information systems
