Job Summary: The Fabrication Manager oversees all aspects of the daily Production activities for all first and second-shift fabrication and weld departments. The Fabrication Manager receives broad direction from the Director of Operations, develops work plans on both a short- and long-term basis, and resolves most problems independently or in collaboration with the Director of Operations. The Fabrication Manager is responsible for achieving daily manufacturing goals in assigned departments and ensuring facility and equipment functionality is maintained.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following with other duties assigned as necessary:

· Manager is to monitor production output, supervise staff and ensure that products meet customer specifications and quality expectations.

· Reviews daily production schedules and plans work and staff assignments for the appropriate shifts based on sales forecasts, required man-hours, production capacity, materials availability, tooling or preparation requirements, and available manufacturing space.

  • Responsible for training and developing leads to ensure that they too are upholding all the required company policies and procedures within production, safety, and environment.
  • Responsible for all the cross-training and development of fabricators and welders. Manages performance and behavioral concerns with the collaboration of the HR team to ensure equitable and fair practices across all departments.
  • Develop formal training manuals for machine processes along with creating and updating job descriptions as necessary.

· Provides verbal and written direction and leadership to subordinate supervisors and leads. Collaborates with Human Resources for development and training.

· Anticipates and determines causes of delays in shift operations and takes appropriate action to expedite production and materials delivery to meet shipping schedules.

· Responsible for generating, publishing, and presenting weekly and monthly KPI reports for all department segments.

· Coordinates required equipment repairs with maintenance employees or outside contractors under the direction and approval of the Director of Operations.

· Coordinates fabrication scheduling with Purchasing and Planning lead times and plant capacity.

· Collaboration with Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering to maximize design and manufacturing efficiencies throughout departments.

· Reviews scraps and defect work at the end of each shift and authorizes rework or scrapping as appropriate.

· Collaborates on hiring, training, development, performance reviews, disciplinary actions, and scheduling of direct and indirect employees with the Human Resources Team.

· Ensures that all employees are aware of and follow safe work practices at all times. Will engage in Safety Committee Meetings and identify and implement safety improvements.

· Responsible for all incident and accident reporting. Collaborates with Human Resources for accident reporting protocols.

  • Participates in the Engineering Change Notice process, and Supplier Corrective Action Request process.
  • Provides status updates to Production Control for WIP.
  • Generates, receives, evaluates, and monitors purchase requisitions for supplies, tools, and other tertiary items required for production and special projects.

· Identifies, plans, and executes Continuous Improvement initiatives.

Physical Demands:

· Maximum lifting requirement (pounds): 75 (infrequently).

· Maximum moving requirement (pounds): 150 (with assistance).

· Maintaining physical condition necessary for the following: Frequent standing, walking, sitting, kneeling, crouching, stooping, squatting, twisting upper body, or climbing.

· Working at heights off the ground up to: 25 feet.

· Vision requirements: Close, distance, and peripheral vision; depth perception.

· Process creation and auditing

· ERP, KPI, scrap management, and reporting

· Equipment and tooling selection and validation

· Programming/Automation

· ROI’s, SPC, calibration, PM schedules, and service contracts

· Fume extraction, down draft tables, dust collection.

· Fixtures and jigs

· Fabrication and Welding equipment:

§ Mazak, Amada, Accurpress, Haas, Miller, Lincoln

§ Turret punches and tooling

§ Press brakes and tooling.

§ Lasers and other blanking equipment

§ Roll forming, saws, plasma cutters, shears, lathe, mills.

§ MIG/TIG

Work Environment:

· Work location(s): Metal fabrication/assembly shop, shop office with computer.

· Exposure to: Fumes, airborne particles, wet/humid (non-weather) conditions, toxic/caustic chemicals, moving mechanical parts/equipment, inclement weather conditions.

· Personal protective equipment requirement: Safety glasses, safety shoes. Hardhat, gloves and ear protection as necessary. Additional equipment as per job site requirements.

Position Requirements:

· Ability to communicate (oral/written) with employees and others effectively.

· Ability to direct and lead subordinates and others safely and efficiently.

· Ability to plan, organize and direct multiple work activities simultaneously.

· Working knowledge of Fabrication and Welding equipment, processes, standards, and best practices.

· Ability to read, understand and interpret field documents, shop drawings and blueprints.

· Excellent computer skills: Office 365, Excel, Word, Power point, Outlook, and MS Teams required.

· Strong knowledge of ERP programs is desired.

· Knowledge of occupational hazards and the ability to follow safe work practices.

· Experiential: 10 years supervisory or management background in fabrication and/or manufacturing required.

· Educational: Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, industrial engineering or equivalent or related technical area is desirable.

Certificates, Licenses, etc.: Forklift operator certification; driver’s license
