Position Summary:

We're looking for a Director of Corporate Engineering who will be responsible for setting and delivering the strategic and operating objectives of Corporate Engineering to meet corporate short- and long-term business strategies.

What You'll Do:

  • Collaborates with corporate and plant resources in order to leverage continuous improvement thinking in support of Supply Chain Excellence.
  • Responsible for ensuring large scale projects are successfully implemented on time and on budget, including but not limited to new innovation, platform, cost savings, capacity and/or other highly visible capital projects.
  • Manages engineering resources to ensure that the Company's facilities maximize their capability to receive, store, process and package finished product through efficient and effective planning, technical evaluation, and implementation of the capital investment program.
  • Manages the multi-year capital planning process to ensure the most effective use of the company capital assets; prepares corporate capital budget annually; coordinates the capital priority systems; recommends and controls corporate capital cash flow as needed to meet timelines and budget objectives.
  • Ensures compliance with Welch's legal and regulatory responsibilities in regards to environmental requirements, food safety, people safety, etc. (i.e. OSHA, EPA, USDA, FDA, etc.).
  • Leads staff in understanding the Strategic Growth Plan (SGP) and their role to support justification, planning, and execution of key capital projects identified.
  • Responsible through engineering and plant staff for facilities and equipment design and implementation of technology to assure efficient manufacturing practices.
  • Responsible for hiring and career development of staff, encompassing performance management, identifying development needs and opportunities
  • Supports and collaborates with local plant management sponsors to implement and utilize asset care management via the use of technology, continuous improvement tools, and standard work procedures that are to be used to extend asset life.
  • Provides leadership for the Engineering organization by defining, building and leading Engineers in project execution, in line with best-practice project leadership methodology
  • Ensures full compliance with CQV (Commissioning, Qualification & Verification process) and other commercialization procedures during execution of key projects
  • Defines and ensures project objectives, milestones, deliverables and work methods during key project execution phases, including providing key capital and engineering updates to senior leadership.
  • Responsible for preparing materials and leading Capital & Budgeting reviews, including Monthly Capital Meetings with Welch's Leadership Team (WLT).
  • Participates in various stakeholder governance meetings as required, including Stage-gate, Board of Directors, Productivity, Value Engineering, CQV, etc.
  • Supports VP of Operations as extended staff member
  • Leads select projects as working engineer in conjunction with leadership responsibilities
  • Responsible for monitoring, reporting and delivering budgeted cashflow
  • Additional responsibilities, assignments, and special projects as assigned

  • Current on Engineering practices, continually developing personal knowledge and connected to the Engineering and other technical communities.
  • You have strategic leadership competencies, including delivery execution, commercialization excellence, resource and project prioritization.


What You'll Need:

  • S. Engineering degree required MBA preferred
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in Engineering, Maintenance, Reliability, or project management roles of increasing responsibility, preferably in food or CPG manufacturing environments.
  • Experience leading initiatives across multiple locations (i.e. plants, corporate, etc.)
  • Maintenance experience desired
  • PSM experience/expertise desired
  • Proficiency in Office Applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
  • Preferred location is North East, PA. Also can be based in Concord, MA or Lawton, MI
  • Able to travel 25-40% of the time dependent upon office location
