SUMMARY:
The Advanced Data Analyst at National Heritage Academies (NHA) performs rigorous analyses of quantitative and qualitative data. As part of the Information & Analytics team, they will have access to a robust data warehouse, leading analytical tools, and experienced colleagues. The individual selected for this role will perform organizational analytics projects in support of the NHA mission. Projects will include descriptive, diagnostic, predictive, and prescriptive analyses. The Advanced Data Analyst reports to the Manager of Analytics and is a member of the Information and Analytics (I&A) department. The I&A department consists of 20+ employees committed to transforming NHA’s performance through data intelligence. Within the team are business intelligence developers, accountability analysts, and advanced data analysts. This position requires on site work in Grand Rapids, MI.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Work closely with internal departments to diagnose data needs, frame problems, and operationalize insights
Independently manage analytical projects through each stage of the process (question formulation, design, analysis, quality checks, communication of results)
Identify and apply the appropriate analytical strategy to the task at hand (descriptive, diagnostic, predictive, prescriptive)
Build data sets from various data sources and optimize for analysis through feature engineering
Develop and deploy custom data models/algorithms and monitor performance
Create data visualizations and reports as needed
Fulfill ad-hoc data requests and analyses
Effectively communicate results to stakeholders. Explain and present technical ideas and concepts to non-technical audiences with confidence and clarity, identify the story in the data, and provide a narrative around key ideas
Support the analytics team members through collaboration and collective problem solving
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in data science, statistics, mathematics, or other analytical field. Master’s degree preferred.
Strong judgement, analytical, and problem-solving skills
Possess a curious mindset and entrepreneurial spirit
Excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal, including confidence and presence to engage effectively with organizational leaders
Strong interpersonal skills to build a network of internal relationships with a broad cross-section of the organization and leverage organizational knowledge, resources, and expertise
Experience in various statistical analyses and treatments (especially explanatory and predictive modeling through various types of regression analysis)
Experience with analytical tools (SQL, SAS, R, Python, etc.)
Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI)
Able to coordinate multiple tasks, set priorities, and deliver on specified time frames
Self-motivated with the ability to work effectively as a member of a team or independently
Approachable and willing to shift priorities in order to meet organizational needs
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
2+ years of relevant work experience
Proficient in SQL programming
Professional experience with causal modeling and quasi-experimental techniques (propensity score matching, regression discontinuity, difference in differences, etc.)
Professional experience with supervised and unsupervised machine learning techniques for classification, regression, and clustering
Experience with text mining / natural language processing (NLP)
Expertise in survey design and analysis
