The School of Social Work is proud of its 42-year history educating MSW and BSW social workers throughout Southeastern New England. The MSW and BSW programs currently serve 350 students. The school and its faculty are committed to a teaching and learning process which centers social justice and anti-racist education. Founded in 1854, Rhode Island College is the comprehensive public institution of higher education in the State of Rhode Island. Essential Duties
  • Teach in the MSW Program, particularly advanced clinical practice courses and advanced courses on research and evaluation of clinical practice
  • Serve as liaison to students in field internships, and facilitate field seminars
  • Provide academic advisement to students
  • Engage in scholarly research and professional activities
  • Participate in curriculum development for the MSW program
  • Participate in clinical sequence meetings and meetings of the MSW and full SSW faculty
  • Engage in professional community service
  • Participate in other departmental and college activities as requested.
Occasional Duties
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Dean, School of Social Work or Chair of the MSW program.
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
  • Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in clinical practice with diverse populations and commitment to anti-racism and social justice.
  • Ability to participate as a member of a team with faculty and staff.
  • Student centered
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Comfortable with the use of instructional technology
  • Able and willing to teach hybrid and on-line courses
  • Able and willing to teach weekend and evening courses
  • Expertise in at least one substantive area.
Required Qualifications
Education: PhD in Social work, DSW or a doctoral degree from a closely related field. Candidates who intend to complete their doctoral study by August 2023 can apply. MSW degree from CSWE-accredited institution.
Experience: At least two years full-time post-MSW clinical social work practice experience in working with historically marginalized communities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Social Work, Social Welfare of DSW
  • Teaching experience social work at the BSW or MSW levels.
  • Experience in the development and delivery of hybrid, and on-line instruction at undergraduate or graduate levels
  • Experience in working with Latinx and Black communities and issues affecting the Latinx and /or Black population.
  • Bi-lingual in Spanish, Portuguese or other languages
Environmental Conditions
Teaching/instruction is performed in a traditional classroom setting and /or computer lab with whiteboards/smartboards and adequate ventilation and lighting.
